After our short visit to Lima, we took a plane to a city called Cusco in the Southeastern part of Peru. The first day there, we were really sick because of the altitude (3,400 meters above the sea) so we spent most of the the day resting. The second day however we took a tour to Chinchero (one of the districts of Urubamba) to see some beautiful Inca ruins!
One of the things I enjoyed the most of Peru was all the beautiful scenery. The breathtaking mountains and vast green fields looked straight out of a postcard.
I also really enjoyed seeing the market of Chinchero. Peru has always been known for their colorful fabrics and their adorable Lamas, and the market was filled with merchandise showing both things.
Next up we got to see how the native Peruvian women make all of their pretty colorful fabrics. It was very interesting!
We also decided to enjoy a cup of hot Coca tea as we watched the presentation. For those of you who don't know, Coca tea is native to South America and it is made using leaves of the Coca plant (the same plant that cocaine is made out of). However, the tea is not like cocaine at all! The coca tea is a mild stimulant (like a cup of coffee or black tea) and it tastes kind of like green tea. Anywhoo, it was very enjoyable!
Stay tuned to see more photos of our trip to Peru! Next up is the ruins of Ollantaytambo!
